MSF OCBA carried out an exploratory mission in Argelia from the 29th of January to the 23rd of February 2007. The main objective was to asses in situ the health situation of the SSI ( Sub-Saharan Immigrants) in transit on their way to Europe, including the response to this problematic from the national authorities and international actors.The arrival of SSIs is affecting several countries in the north of Africa, including Argelia, as this countries represent the entry door to Europe. This is not a new phenomenon in Argelia, as this country is traditionally a place where SSI transit in their way to Europe since many years ago. However, reports show an increase in the number of people arriving despite all the efforts done to stop their entry in the country. We can estimate that the current population of SSI in transit to Europe in Argelia is between 21,000 and 30,000 people (there are numbers that go up to 300,000)

Em 2015, MSF iniciou um programa para tornar o tratamento de HIV mais acessível a grupos vulneráveis. Desde então, MSF tem trabalhado com duas organizações argelinas em diversas clínicas administradas pelo Ministério da Saúde. MSF contribui para aumentar a conscientização das estratégias de prevenção de HIV, realizando atividades de promoção de saúde e de envolvimento comunitário com os grupos de risco. As equipes também oferecem serviços de diagnóstico na comunidade e dão apoio técnico aos centros de referência para padronizar o tratamento, o monitoramento e os protocolos. Em 2016, MSF doou equipamentos de laboratório e apoiou a descentralização do atendimento.
